Britain's Greenest Hospital celebrates with green flames in South Manchester

Britain's Greenest Hospital is flying the flag for the NHS by organising the first ever green beacon in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.
UHSM - The University Hospital of South Manchester - is working with local sculptor, Darren Nichol and students from nearby Newall Green High School, in Wythenshawe, to produce a beacon made of recycled old hospital beds which resembles a giant stylised crown measuring 5 feet wide, with towering spikes over 12 feet high.

Quick Silver SFX, who stage special pyrotechnic effects for Coronation Street and other TV soaps are devising a special green flame for the beacon. The two winners of a Red, White and Blue Dress Up Day will light the beacon,  and more than 400 staff and members of the local community will enjoy the spectacle at a celebration party in the hospital's main car park.
