Killyleagh Castle celebrates in County Down

Killyleagh Heritage Association in partnership with Down District Council are joining others in this celebration by hosting a community event in Killyleagh on Monday 4 June.
All sorts of activites have been planned for the day including a fancy dress parade, football tournament, fun and games in the High Street, a bonfire beacon and firework display.

Down District Council Chairman, Cllr Dermot Curran said, “This is a community event and everyone from throughout Down district is invited to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and witness the spectacular of our Eco friendly bonfire beacons. The picturesque location of Killyleagh dwarfed by the walls of Killyleagh Castle has proven to be the ideal setting for such a prestige celebration. I would like to congratulate the Killyleagh Heritage Association for the hard work and dedication they have put in to the organisation of this exciting event. We hope locals and visitors alike will enjoy the day’s activities.”

Killyleagh Heritage Association Chairperson, Ronald Carson added, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate a remarkable achievement in the life of our current Queen. The events we have organised will give a party atmosphere that the whole community can enjoy and we would encourage all our young people to dress up for the fancy dress parade which will provide a carnival atmosphere.”

He continued, “We envisage a lot of visitors to Killyleagh and are grateful to be the town selected within Down district to host such an event. We are pleased that two major television companies will broadcast live to a global audience putting Killyleagh clearly on the map.”

This project is part funded by Down District Council and by the EU’s Peace III programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body and delivered by the North Down, Ards and Down Council’s Cluster.
