The Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon. Julia Gillard MP, will participate in the beacon lighting ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra on Monday 4 June. The ceremony will run from 9.45 - 10.10 pm, with the beacon lighting occurring at 10.00 pm (AEST, ie, 1 pm, 4 June BST). It will be a bipartisan event and will include the participation of the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Tony Abbot, MP. There will also be 8 Scouts and 8 Guides attending, flanked by 100 students on the night years 10, 11 and 12 from government and non-government schools the Australian Capital Territory.
